Things in the last while have been crazy and difficult for me. There’s been equipment failures, crashes, and other troubles (see the Curse of 13 posts). But probably the worst obstacle is that I somehow contracted whooping cough, accompanied by pneumonia. As a result, right when I need to be very focussed and energetic to drive the premiere of Hard Drive 13, I’ve had barely enough energy to complete the editing. Curse of 13- WTF?!?!?

What was that?!? I mean really, opening day, the Big Premiere, and the website goes down. I spent all day on the phone and online with our host provider, trying to get things up and running. And they were cagey. And bureaucratic. I believe in the curse now. True believer here. The things that have gone wrong with this show are off the scale compared to other projects. Way off the scale. I honestly didn’t think there would be a Curse of 13 Part 3. I was more or less kidding when I wrote The Curse Part 1 and Part 2. I don’t believe in curses. We were just having fairly bad luck. Well within the bell curve of fortune vs.misfortune. Not a curse. But I’m beginning to change my mind.

The Curse of 13 – Part 2

I was feeling pretty good about myself. For the first time in the history of the project, we had a full off-site backup. There are issues with an off-site backup of media files for an active project; you need to do massive large-file transfers daily (or more frequently), and keeping everything up-to-date is an ongoing and tedious job. It’s much easier and faster to do with a local drive. And we can’t afford a data wrangler to handle it for  us. And then there’s the expense. We’ve had our usual run of bad luck. Any production has a long list of things that go wrong. It seemed like there were more than usual on this show, but likely still within the margin of error. And then; Hard Drive Failure.
